The Hillcrest Boys Soccer Team defeated Detroit Lakes on Thursday at home by the score of 6-4, in a cold, wet, wild, mudfest.  “It was a wild game with horrible field conditions,” reported Head Coach Rod Jensen of the Comets. “Definitely tough conditions for goal tending and defense with slippery conditions preventing changing directions!  Regardless, we had excellent midfield support from Lincoln Nash, Matthew Knutson, Otavio Roseira, Soren Floden, and especially Drew Fischer, who was all over the field offensively and defensively!”

One minute and thirty seconds into the game Otavio Roseira was taken down hard on the left side of the field.  Senior Captain Abram Ness scored on the Free Kick awarded to the Comets.  Just 20 seconds later, Abram Ness scored on a rebounded shot from Senior Captain, Matthew Knutson.  At eight minutes, a corner kick by Abram Ness found the back of the net off a Laker Defenders leg.  Just one minute later, a Laker midfielder placed a floater just over the top of Comet Keeper, Franki Renner.  DL scored twice at 28 and 29 minutes, tying the score.  Four minutes before the end of the first half, Drew Fischer scored of a header from Abram Ness on a corner kick, ending a “wild” half.

Five minutes into the second half, a throw in by Matthew Knutson found Abram Ness at the top of the 18 who scored with a blast to the back of the net.  At 73 minutes, Ness attacked the left goal line, beating two defenders and placed a perfect shot to the right corner of the net.  The final goal of the game came with five minutes remaining in the game when the Comets could not clear the ball from their box, making several attempts.  DL capitalized on the opportunity and scored, ending the game with the Comets up 6-4.

The Comets had 18 shots on goal compared to the Lakers nine.

The Comets now 8-6-1 take on Melrose in a double header with the Ladies Saturday for their last regular-season game with section seeding and playoff schedules announced Monday.
