Barnesville dropped 3 straight sets in Henning on Tuesday night, losing to the Hornets 25-21, 26-24, 25-22.  “We had a very slow start to the night struggling to get out of serve receive,” said Trojans Head Coach Megan Askegaard. “We battled back with the Hornets and found ways to come together as a team to keep the first set close. We were right there in each set, we just needed to eliminate our mistakes to keep us in the match.”

Askegaard continued, “Abby John (10 kills, 1 solo block, 2 block assists) had a nice night tonight in the middle with some attacks out of the middle that she put away hard to the floor. She also had our only stuff block of the night that went straight back down to the floor. Aubryn Hinsz (2 kills, 2 block assists) played smart up in the front row tonight and placed her ball nicely in area 1 to take out their setting on the first contact in their defensive system. Amelia Newell (18 set assists, 13/14 serving, 1 ace, 4 digs) and Sophie Frederick (5 set assists, 7/9 serving) worked to put up some nice 2nd balls for our hitters. When we did run our offense, we were successful in scoring when we were in control of the ball.”

Other stat leaders were Lexi Hoeft (5 kills, 6/9 serving, 2 aces), Lydia Braton (4 kills, 10/10 serving), Macie Pauna (4 kills), Kenadee Gray (12 digs, 14/15 serving, 3 aces) and Elizabeth Mulcahy (9/9 serving, 1 ace).

“The Hornets were able to find some holes in our defense tonight where we didn’t hustle and go hard after every ball,” noted Coach Askegaard. “We needed to be more aggressive on that side of the floor if we want to get things going in our offense. I thought that overall we didn’t communicate well and give our 100% effort to make plays happen. Our bench did an outstanding job letting our players know what they saw unfolding out on the court during play.  Henning took advantage of our mistakes and used their strong setter and hitter, Lyvia Misegades, to really set the tone for the night. Moving into a HOL matchup with Breck on Thursday, we need to come out showing more than 100% effort out on the floor and really focusing on communicating with everyone.”

No Henning stats were reported.
