Lukken Runs for 193 Yards and 3 TDs to Lead Rockets Past Comets, 35-21

Collin Lukken ran for 193 yards and 3 touchdowns on Friday night, leading the Underwood Rockets to a 35-21 victory over Hillcrest Lutheran Academy in Fergus Falls.  The Rockets had a total of 320 rushing yards and 397 total yards on the night.  Blayre Lundgren had 99 yards on 20 carries and Evan Lundgren completed 4-of-8 passes for 77 yards.  Kaleb Hammes caught 3 balls for 56 yards.

Evan Lundgren capped a 7-play, 67-yard drive with a one yard TD run.  Soren Floden added the PAT kick for a 7-0 lead.  Hillcrest responded with an 11-play, 73-yard scoring drive, tying the game on a 6 yard run by Ethan Swedberg and an extra point kick by Kian Stender.

The Comets took a 14-7 lead 25 seconds into the second quarter when Swedberg hit Isaac Blaskowski with a 31-yard TD pass and Stender added the PAT kick.  Underwood responded with an 8-play, 65-yard scoring drive that saw Lukken score his first of 3 touchdowns on a 7 yard run.  Floden booted the extra point to tie the game at 14-14 with 8:29 left in the half.  A Noah Link interception was followed by a 23 yard run to the end zone by Lukken and another Floden kick for a 21-14 Underwood lead.  The Rockets stopped the Comets on down and then went 68-yards in 15-plays with Kale Rich bulling his way into the end zone for a one yard TD run with just 12 seconds remaining until halftime.  Floden tacked on the 28th point for a 28-14 Underwood lead at the half. 

The third quarter was scoreless.  Blaskowski found the end zone for a second time when he caught a 3-yard pass from Swedberg.  Stender cut the lead to 28-21 with his PAT kick.  Lukken’s third and final TD of the game came on a 17 yard run with 5:45 left in the game.  Floden put the 35th point on the board.  An Evan Lundgren interception sealed the win.

Hillcrest ran for 125 yards and passed for 165, giving the Comets a total of 290 yards.  Thor Ewan had 111 rushing yards on 26 carries and Swedberg completed 15-of-27 passes with Leo Nordick catching 6 of them for 55 yards.  Gabe Swedenburg had 4 receptions for 35 yards and Blaskowski caught 3 for 39 yard.

Underwood finished with 409 total yards, 330 of them coming on the ground.  Defensively, Leo Bye had a sack, Noah Link and Evan Lundgren had interceptions, Owen Harig recovered a pair of fumbles and Brock Hasling led the team with 7 tackles.

Underwood (2-2) will host Border West next Friday and Hillcrest (1-3) will host Ashby/Brandon-Evansville.
