The Hillcrest Lutheran Academy Boys Soccer Team was defeated by the number eight ranked High School Team in the state (all classes https://www.maxpreps.com/mn/soccer/rankings/1/ ) St. Cloud Cathedral (SCC) 1-0 on Saturday at the Danielson Field in Fergus Falls.

Eleven minutes into the contest, Senior Comet defender, Max Anderson took down a Crusader attacker in the box.  Cathedral converted the opportunity into the only goal scored in the game.

Time of possession highly favored the Crusaders with the Comets playing aggressive team defense during the game.  SCC launched 17 shots on goal, where Freshman Comet goalie, Franki Renner, was perfect with the PK exception.  The Comets had some great opportunities to tie late in the game but were only able to get three non-threatening long shots outside the 18 on frame.

“I was looking forward to this game to see how our young team stacked up against one of the best teams in the state.  I don’t like to lose, but this loss was a win for the team, as they recognized their potential and for the first time, played all 80 minutes with intensity!  Our team defense had a tremendous game.  Caleb Holm, Lincoln Nash, Noah Bjorndahl, EJ Cho, Soren Floden, and Kian Stender provided excellent support in the backfield.  Midfield pressure came from Matthew Knutson, Drew Fischer, Abram Ness, and TJ Idudu.  Obviously, the Comet player of the game was our goalie, Franki Renner, perfect in stopping 16 shots and several during one on one open Crusader opportunities. “

The Comets, now 4-3-1 take on a tough Bemidji team in a conference game on Monday at 4PM at home.
