Bulldogs Compile 588 Yards and Score 66 Points in Win Over Comets

Ottertail Central ran for 451 yards and passed for 137 more as they recorded a 66-19 victory over Hillcrest Lutheran Academy on Friday night in Henning.  In addition to their 588 yards of total offense, the Bulldogs had 26 first downs and didn’t have a turnover.

Mason Dalluge had a big night for the Bulldogs, running for 120 yards on just 4 carries and hauling in 3 passes for 109 yards.  Jack Mekalson completed 6-of-8 passes for 137 yards.  Defensively, Tyler Christensen led the way with 8 tackles.

Christensen got OTC on the board early with a 3 yard run and Mekalson added the two-point conversion run for an 8-0 lead.  Hillcrest responded with a 30-yard TD pass from Ethan Swedberg to Isaac Blaskowski, cutting the Bulldogs lead to 8-6.  Christopher Fronning broke loose for a 32-yard TD run and Mekalson threw a two-point conversion pass for a 16-6 OTC lead.  A 27 yard run by Fronning and a 10 yard run by Mekalson gave the Bulldogs a 28-6 advantage at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter a 30 yard touchdown run was followed by a 3-yard conversion pass to Dalluge from Mekalson, and Christensen scored his second TD of the night on a 15 yard run for a 42-6 halftime lead.

Thor Ewan scored on an 11-yard run for Hillcrest, cutting the lead to 42-12, but OTC got a 79 yard run from Dalluge and a 54 yard pass from Mekalson to Dalluge.  Each TD was followed by successful two-point conversions, giving Ottertail Central a 58-12 advantage after three quarters.

Braxtyn Cameron carried the ball in from the one yard line to start the fourth quarter and the two-point conversion run ended the scoring for OTC as they built a 66-12 lead.  Hillcrest scored on a 13 yard run by Swedberg and an extra-point kick by Kian Stender to put the final score at 66-19.

The Comets had 299 yards of total offense, 100 on the ground and 199 through the air.  They recorded 18 first downs in the game.  Swedberg completed 18-of-30 passes for 199 yards and Ewan led the running game with 49 yards on 16 carries.  Top receivers were Gabe Swedenburg (5 catches, 66 yards), Leo Nordick (5 catches, 59 yards) and Nathan Bermel (7 catches, 44 yards).  Maverick Peterson and Zander Johnson led the Comets with 6 tackles each.

Ottertail Central (3-0) will play at Rothsay next Friday night, while Hillcrest (1-2) plays host to the Underwood Rockets.
