Junior Ruby Peterson crossed the 1000 threshold for career set assists during the Hillcrest Comets 2nd place finish in the Pelican Rapids Volleyball Invitational on Saturday.  She is the first lady Comet to receive this honor and only the 2nd lady Comet to receive a “1000” Volleyball honor. “We’ll be able to celebrate with her again on our home court Tuesday night,” said Hillcrest Head Coach Debi Foss.  “Overall, the girls played a great tournament and maintained our stamina fairly well.”

Hillcrest recorded 2-0 wins over Rothsay (25-11, 25-14), Lake Park-Audubon (25-15, 25-17) and Battle Lake (25-14, 25-5), split with Breckenridge (23-25, 25-19 and Pelican Raids (22-25, 25-14).

Pelican Rapids won the tournament, Hillcrest was second and Breckenridge came in third.

“The girls did a good job of learning through play as we seek to further develop our game,” noted Coach Foss.  “We missed a lot of serves, so we have some work to do on that, and our hitting had its highs and lows.  The season is still early, but I know we are headed in the right direction.  I truly appreciate how the girls are working together and keeping their ‘EYES UP’!”

Stat leaders for the tournament were Peterson (48/50 serving, 31 serving points, 87 set assists, 7 kills, 28 digs, 2 block kills), Anna Brumfield (35/39 serving, 20 serving points, 6 aces, 18 kills, 32 digs, 2 block kills), Emily Adams (14 aces, 41 serving points, 26 kills, 7 set assists, 15 digs, 3 block kills), Ella Knutson (4 ace serves, 12 serving points, 24 kills, 30 digs, 3 block kills), Kenzie Miller (4 ace serves, 26 serving points, 24 kills, 9 digs, 4 block kills), Elsa Retzlaff (3 ace serves, 15 serving points, 7 kills, 29 digs, 1 block kill), Chloe Walkup (16 digs), Maddie Miller (7 digs) and Kaia Miller (1 serving point, 1 kill, 1 dig).

The Comets will host a conference matchup on Tuesday against Brandon-Evansville with their Junior High teams playing in Brandon.
