The Fergus Falls football team overcame a 21-0 first half deficit on Friday night and went on to record a 42-28 victory over Park Rapids Area on opening night at the Otter Stadium field.  After yielding the first 21 points of the game, Fergus Falls found the end zone twice in the second quarter to pull to within 8 points at 21-13 at the half.  The Otters trailed 28-21 after three quarters and scored 21 fourth quarter points to secure the victory on a hot, humid night, making first year Head Coach Chris Grabowska a winner in his debut.

Quarterback Noah Morris fired a 25 yard TD pass for the first Park Rapids touchdown and then ran the ball in from 6 yards out for the Panthers second score as they took a 14-0 lead after the first quarter.  Morris found the end zone for a third time on a one yard run early in the second quarter as the visitors took a 21-0 lead.  Fergus Falls got their offense going when Griffin Babolian broke free for a 40 yard TD run.  Shane Zierden booted the extra point and it was 21-7.  Henry Bethel picked off a pass and his 4 yard run brought the Otters to within eight points at 21-13 at the half.

In the third quarter, Bethel intercepted his second pass of the night and then connected with Kellen Stenstrom on a 12 yard touchdown pass and then hooked up with Jack Ratz for the two-point conversion, tying the game at 21-21.  Park Rapids regained the lead on a 14 yard TD pass by Morris and an extra point kick made it 28-21.

The fourth quarter started with a 19 yard touchdown run by Babolian.  A missed extra point left the Otters down one point at 28-27.  Carston Fronning came up with a fumble recovery which he returned for a touchdown as the Otters took their first lead of the night.  Babolian’s two-point conversion run put the score at 35-28.  Bethel closed out the scoring with a 33 yard run with just under two minutes to play and Zierden made the score 42-28 with the extra point kick.  Jack Ratz picked off his second pass of the night to secure the victory.

Babolian ran for 131 yards on 21 carries and Bethel ran for 83 yards on 9 carries.  He also passed for 66 yards.  Fergus Falls had 305 yards of total offense.

Morris passed for 215 yards and the Panthers finished with 335 total yards.

The Otters will play their first road game next Friday night against Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton.
