Hillcrest Lutheran Academy kicked off their 2023 volleyball season with an intense road match against the Titans from Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal.  Hillcrest won the first set 25-20, lost set two 25-20, won the third set 25-21, dropped a 25-22 decision in the fourth set and fell 15-13 in the final set as the Titans survived the five set match, 3-2.

“In the end, I think we ran out of steam, had too many errors, and couldn’t get a kill when we needed one,” said Hillcrest Head Coach Debi Foss.  “It was good competition.  Despite the loss, the girls showed a lot of determination, teamwork, and left nothing behind.  We definitely had some first game type mistakes, some miscommunication and a lot of errors.  This is just the beginning of a season-long process.  We work, we train, we adjust, and we keep learning because we trust the process.  I’m proud of these girls and I know the best is yet to come.”

Ella Knutson and Emily Adams led the team with 16 kills each.  Anna Brumfield had 8 kills on the night and Ruby Peterson had 46 set assists.  Anna Brumfield and Ella Knutson each had 22 digs, followed by Ruby Peterson with 14, Emily Adams with 16 and Chloe Walkup with 15.

Hillcrest has a non-conference matchup against Pelican Rapids on Thursday.
