Rod Jensen begins his 23rd year as Head Coach of the Hillcrest Boys’ Soccer team.  The Comets were 12-5-1 a year ago.  Jensen will be assisted by Nathan Jensen and Steve Ness.  Seniors Abram Ness (Striker), Matthew Knutson (Midfielder) and Noah Bjorndahl (Stopper) will serve as team captains.

Other returning letter winners are seniors Max Anderson (Sweeper) and Soren Floden (Goalie), and sophomore Drew Fischer (Midfielder).

Jensen will be looking to sophomore Otavio Roseira (Midfielder) and freshman Frankie Renner (Goalie/Midfielder) to step into varsity roles.

“We are young with lots of sophomores and freshmen starters,” acknowledged Coach Jensen.  “We lack varsity experience heading into the season.”

In past years, Hillcrest has had a number of Norwegian exchange students at the school and several of them on the soccer teams.  That is not the case this year as changes to the study abroad benefits that students used to cover tuition expenses has resulted in a cancellation of the program at the Danielson School.  Where Hillcrest used to get between 40 and 45 students from Bergen, Norway, this year they have less than ten.  Coach Jensen has just 3 Norwegian students on his roster this year.

Jensen sees St. Cloud Cathedral, Detroit Lakes and Fergus Falls as teams to beat in Section 8A.
