Border West Junior High Track and Field Athletes Compete in Ortonville

The Border West Junior High track and field squads competed in their first meet of the season on Monday in Ortonville.  “It was a great night all around for our track and field athletes,” reported Head Coach Brittany Erickson.  “We are extremely proud of the effort and determination our athletes displayed throughout the night.  With such a small crew, they showcased their talents, scored many points, and brought home a lot of ribbons.”

7th Grade Girls
1. Border West 106, 1. Hancock 106, 3. Browns Valley 57, 4. Ortonville 53
Border West had first place finishes from Carlie Schultz in the shot put (21’4”) and the 200 meter dash (33.20), Payton Kellen in the long jump (10-11.5”), the 100 meter dash (14.46) and the 400 meter dash (1:15.71), and Karissa Anderson in the 1600 meter run (6:55.13 and the 800 meter run (3:06).  Schultz also took second in the long jump (10-11”) and the Buccaneers were second in the 4x200 meter relay (2:15).  Raelyn Wiegman claimed third place in the 400 meter dash (1:23.59) and the 4x100 meter relay team (1:09.47) was also third.

8th-9th Grade Girls
1. Border West 114, 2. Hancock 100, 3. Browns Valley 18
Claire Rinke won the triple jump (29’) and the long jump (13’), Emily Kellen won the high jump (4’6”), the 100 meter dash (13.50) and the 200 meter dash (27.81), Taylin Schmidt won the 200 meter hurdles (36.22) and the 100 meter hurdles (20.71), and Faith Gahlon was the champion in the 400 meter dash (1:10) and the 800 meter run (3:13.20).  Border West also won the 4x200 meter relay (2:06.02).  Gahlon had a runner-up finish in the long jump (12’) and Schmidt took second in the long jump (11’6.5”).

7th Grade Boys
1. Hancock 173, 2. Border West 68, 3. Browns Valley 55, 4. Ortonville 10
Sam Rinke won the triple jump (30’8”) and the 200 meter dash (29.02) and Kashtyn Schmidt won the shot put (30’) and the discus (85’6”).  Rinke was runner-up in the long jump (13’3”) and Julian Ortley was second in the 1600 meter run (6:23).  Schmidt recorded a third place in the 100 meter dash (14.69).

8th-9th Grade Boys
1. Hancock 111, 2. Border West 100, 3. Browns Valley 58, 4. Ortonville 27
First place finishers for Border West were Drew Franzese in the shot put (41’9”) and the discus (127’7”), Carter Fickes in the 100 meter hurdles (24.03), Morgan Smith in the 400 meter dash (1:02.4) and the 4x200 meter relay team (1:53.77).  Second place went to Smith in the 100 meter dash (12.52) and the 4x100 meter relay team (1:05.0).  Joseph Foren was third in the shot put (20’ 2”), Colin O’Leary was third in the high jump (4’2”), Smith finished third in the long jump (14’5.25”) and Fickes was third in the 200 meter dash (30.96).
