Allen Aase is a 17-year veteran coach of the Hillcrest track and field teams.  Replacing thrower Gavin Knutson (Shot Put, Discus) and sprinter Caden Fischer (100, 200) who both graduated last spring will be one of the main challenges facing the Comets in 2023.

Returning letter winners include Gabe Swedenburg (400), Matthew Knutson (1600) and Katie Holzner (3200).  They are the captains for the Comets this season.

Coach Aase will be looking to juniors Judit Moller (1600, 3200), Liv Liseth (hurdles, 400) and Marie-Elise Oy (400) to step into varsity roles.  Others who will contribute to the team score on a regular basis include Drew Fischer, Leo Nordick, Maverick Peterson, Elsa Retzlaff and Emma Berge.

“Our numbers are low, but we will have several who will make it to the Section Meet,” assessed Coach Aase.  “We have expanded our coaching staff, which will have a big impact on our individual results.”

Patti Zwiers (Varsity Assistant), April Lokken (Varsity Assistant, Junior High Coach) and Chad Brown (Assistant) round out the staff.

Aase says Wheaton will be the team to beat in the Little Eight Conference, while Perham is the perennial favorite in Section 6A.
