Relying on clutch free throw shooting and aggressive defensive rebounding the Ashby Arrows Boys Basketball Team hung on to defeat the Benson Braves 57-54.  The visiting Arrows trailed by a point 26-27 at halftime.

Jake Norby and Easton Nelson shared high point honors with 15 points apiece.  Norby also grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double.  Richie Johnson contributed 8 first half points.  Bradee Christianson added 7.  Brodie Ecker and Kellen Dahlen completed the Arrow totals with 6 points each.  Ashby shot 38% (20/53) for the game and 91% (10/11) from the free throw line.  The Arrows turned the ball over 12 times and outrebounded the Braves 31-23.

Benson's 1000 career point scorer Juan Espinoza was the game's high scorer netting 25 points.  He scored 23 of those points in the second half.  Benson was also stellar at the foul line making 83% (10/12) of their free throw attempts.

“Our guys made just enough plays down the stretch to get the victory,” said Ashby Head Coach John Holsten.  “Both teams competed hard, but the Arrows really elevated their defensive energy level the last ten minutes of the game.”

The Arrows overall record improves to 7-15.  The regular season concludes this Thursday and Friday with Senior Night for the Arrows at home Thursday and a road challenge at Henning Friday.
