Border West claimed the Little Eight Conference championship with a perfect 16-0 record after their 79-55 win over Underwood on Monday night.  The Buccaneers had a nice 10-0 run that opened up the game with about 8 minutes left in the second half, taking control for good.

“We struggled to hit shots early, especially from deep,” commented Head Coach Jordon Roos of Border West, “however, we kept good care of the ball all night while forcing a bunch of turnovers to keep us in control for most of the night.”

Border West shot 48.6% (34-70) from the floor and scored 36 points off 28 Underwood turnovers.  The Bucs were led by Clint Determan (17 points, 7 rebounds, 2 steals).  Dylan Bainbridge added 15 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists and 3 steals.  Andrew Walker contributed 12 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals, and Cole Gilsdorf had 11 points, 3 assists and 3 steals.

Leaders for the Rockets were Evan Lundgren and Drew Evavold with 11 and 10 points, respectively.  The Rockets pulled to within eleven points with 8 minutes to play, but couldn’t get any closer.  “We played tough and worked hard, but turned the ball over far too much against their pressure,” said Underwood Head Coach Kellen Shebeck.  “We need to continue to bring up our intensity at practice, which will help prepare us for these types of games.’

Border West (23-2, 16-0 LEC) will host Barnesville on Tuesday night.

Underwood (10-15, 7-10 LEC) entertains Park Christian on Tuesday.
