The Battle Lake boys’ basketball team delivered an impressive 80-40 Little Eight Conference victory over Brandon-Evansville on Monday night. The halftime score was 36-29 in favor of the Battlers. B-E had the score down to a 3-point margin with under two minutes to play in the first half, but Battle Lake was able to increase the lead to 7 before the intermission.
Battle Lake shot an amazing 65.3% (32-49) from the field, making 9-of-19 (47.4%) from 3-pont range. They also dominated the boards, 36-16 and recorded 22 assists. Jack Mekalson led the Battlers with 21 points and 6 assists. Owen Buehler had 13 points, 3 assists, 4 rebounds and 3 steals and Bradyn Roisum added 11 points and 7 rebounds. Mason Dalluge just missed a double double with 10 points and 9 rebounds, to go along with 4 assists. Drew Johnson was also in double figures with 10 points. Johnson also had 6 rebounds and 3 assists.
Leaders for Brandon-Evansville were Micah Fuller (15 points, 2 assists), Dezmond White (9 points, 2 assists, 2 rebounds) and Brady Perleberg (5 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal).
“We played poised and controlled in the first half,” reported Brandon-Evansville Head Coach Trent Hintermeister. “In the second half, we missed a couple of shots early, panicked, and started jacking early shots and Battle Lake turned those early shots into easy points. Battle Lake is a super athletic team and we let them use that to their advantage in the second half.”
Battle Lake (19-4, 13-2 LEC) will host Hillcrest on Tuesday night and travels to play Bertha-Hewitt on Friday..
Brandon-Evansville (6-16, 4-10 LEC) travels to Hancock on Tuesday and will host BBE on Thursday.
