The Battle Lake boys’ basketball team scored the first twelve points of the game on the way to a 39-21 halftime advantage in Ashby on Tuesday, holding the Arrows scoreless on their first ten possessions of the game.  “That scoring drought to start the night presented a real challenge of making a comeback,” stated Ashby Head Coach John Holsten.  “Our guys are really pressing right now. If they keep playing with energy and enthusiasm, good things are bound to happen.”

Richie Johnson came off the bench to nail 13 points for the Arrows.  Easton Nelson was next with 8.  Brodie Ecker and Kellen Dahlen each scored 6 points and Dahlen had 9 of the Arrows 24 total rebounds.  Ashby shot just 28% (14/50) from the field.

Drew Johnson (17 points, 5-7 3’s, 4 rebounds, 3 assists) and Bradyn Roisum (16 points, 10 rebounds) led Battle Lake.  Jack Mekalson (14 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists) and Owen Buehler (12 points, 5 rebounds, 4 steals) were also in double digits.  Mason Dalluge chipped in with 4 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists.

“We played a really solid game in Ashby,” said Battle Lake Head Coach Brady Cameron.  “It had a different feel to it with no JV game before and playing at 4:00pm, but our guys had good energy and played a full 36 minutes.  Our offense was moving the ball well and getting good shots all afternoon.  Mason did a really nice job of finishing possessions on defense with a rebound and did a good job offensively, distributing the ball and finding open guys.  Drew has been shooting the ball well for us all year and tonight he did more of the same, knocking down five 3’s and he has continued his trend of defending at a high level. Jack and Owen continued to score the ball well for us like they have done all year and caused a lot of problems on defense with their length and quickness.  Bradyn had a great game getting the double double, and he held his matchup scoreless for the day.  Our main bench guys, Jacob and Aidan did a great job coming in and taking care of the ball and playing great defense and contributed in a nice way.  Our defense held Ashby to 28% shooting and forced 16 turnovers and we out-rebounded them 40-28.”

The Arrows have lost five straight and have an overall record of 5-13.  They are 4-10 in the Little Eight Conference. They will host Parkers Prairie next Tuesday in a LEC contest.

Battle Lake (17-4, 11-2 LEC) has a home game Thursday with Rothsay.
