The Underwood girls’ basketball team secured at least a share of the Little Eight Conference championship with their 72-62 win at Hillcrest Lutheran Academy on Tuesday.  “The conference this year has been a battle and tonight was a perfect example of how solid it is this year,” said Underwood Head Coach Brian Hovland.

“Hillcrest gives you fits with their ability to score at all five positions,” continued Coach Hovland.  “I am proud of this team and how they have grown this year.”

Mo Bugbee led four lady Rockets in double figures with 22 points.  She also had 6 assists and 3 rebounds.  Liz Lukken added 16 points and 5 assists, Zoey Swanson had 12 points and 5 boards, and Kallyn Grove finished with 11 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists.  Mia Blaskowski had a team high 10 rebounds to go along with 6 points.

“We add another real nice night with our balance on the offensive end,” noted Hovland.  “Mo had a nice game both offensively and defensively.”

Ella Knutson led Hillcrest with 23 points and also had 5 rebounds.  Elsa Retzlaff contributed 13 points, Madi Foss registered a double double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while adding 4 steals, and Maddie Ballweg scored 10 points.  Ruby Peterson came through with 5 rebounds and 4 assists and Lizzy Olstad chipped in with 5 points.

“I thought we played hard tonight,” stated Head Coach Hannah Clark of Hillcrest.  “We just didn’t have an answer for their size in the paint.”

Hillcrest (15-8, 10-6 LEC) will host Battle Lake in a LEC contest on Thursday.

Underwood (20-3, 16-1 LEC) takes an 11 game winning streak into Lake Park-Audubon on Thursday night.
