Underwood Boys Overcome Halftime Deficit to Defeat Owls

The Underwood boys’ basketball team overcame a 37-33 halftime deficit and rallied to defeat the Hancock Owls 68-67 in a Little Eight Conference contest Tuesday on the Rockets home court.  Cole Peterson and Drew Evavold led Underwood with 20 and 18 points, respectively, while Evan Lundgren added 11.

Peterson completed his double double by securing 12 rebounds. Evavold added 7 rebounds and 5 assists,. Gavin Pausch (5 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals), Owen Harig (5 points, 4 assists) and Kaleb Hammes (5 points, 4 rebounds) also contributed.

"The guys played a very complete game today," said Underwood Head Coach Kellen Shebeck. "They had excellent energy and communicated well on the court. When we do those two things, everything else seems to follow. Very proud of them."

Leaders for Hancock were Hudson VerSteeg (20 points, 5-3’s, 10 rebounds, 2 steals), Chase Evink (20 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists) and Jared Koehl (12 points, 6 rebounds).  Brayden Kisgen had a team high 7 assists and Jackson Koehl finished with 8 points and 4 assists.

Underwood (10-10, 7-7 LEC) will play at Lake Park-Audubon on Thursday and Hancock (9-9, 7-7 LEC) has a home game against Canby on Thursday before heading to Wheaton on Friday for a showdown with Border West.
