The West Central Area Knights built a 34-12 halftime lead over Ashby enroute to a 62-30 win on Friday night.  The Knights had a 30-19 rebounding edge and a 12-22 turnover advantage in the win.  Jacob Strunk led the Knight defense with 10 steals which is the second most in one game in WCA school history.

"We had good energy, active defense, shared the ball well and got to play 15 players in the game," said Knights Coach Kraig Hunter.

Scoring for the Knights were Bryce Kjesbo with 17 points (6-9 from the field, 2-2 on threes and 3-3 from the free throw line), Cole Anderson had 14 points, Ben Bye had 11 points, Strunk 10, Mitch Dewey 6, and Sam Hanson 4.

Hunter said, "We had a really balanced team rebounding effort with several guys getting 3, 4, 5 rebounds." Bye led the team with 5, Anderson and Brett Amundson each had 4.  Damon Sanstead had 2 offensive rebounds.

Kjesbo also led the team in assists with 4.  After Strunk's 10 steals, Bye also had 4 steals.  Hunter said, "Jake and Ben did a really good job in the back of our press.  I thought Mitch Dewey played one of his best games of the year running our offense, playing with efficiency not turning the ball once. He was stellar on the defensive end containing their explosive guard Easton Nelson and he was also rebounding the ball well from the guard position with 3 rebounds.  We had good bench minutes helping our first half defensive effort from Sam Hanson, Cash Nelson, Brett Amundson and Damon Sanstead."

Scoring for the Arrows were Richie Johnson with 9, Jake Norby with 8, Kellen Dahlen 5, Brodie Ecker 3, Bradee Christianson 3, and Easton Nelson 2.  Ecker also had 6 rebounds and 3 assists.

"Points were hard to get against the active Knight defense," said Ashby Head Coach John Holsten.  "In a sixteen possession stretch during the first half we scored just one basket.  We obviously didn't shoot well and compounded that by not completing enough passes to beat the pressure."

Ashby falls to 5-12 overall and will host Battle Lake on Tuesday night.

West Central Area takes a 13-7 record to Glenwood next Friday night to face Minnewaska Area.
