The Hillcrest girls’ basketball team hit 8-of-14 3’s in the first half and never looked back as they recorded a 73-58 Little Eight Conference win on their home court over Parkers Prairie.  “We shot the ball really well in the first half and that seemed to open up things for us in the paint,” said Hillcrest Head Coach Hannah Clark.

“We found ourselves out of position on defense in the first half and Parkers Prairie always seemed to find an open player and they knocked down shots from the outside,” continued Coach Clark.  “We did a better job in the second half, but still need to improve staying disciplined for a whole possession on the defensive end.”

Maddie Ballweg (25 points, 6 rebounds) and Ella Knutson (19 points, 12 rebounds) led the offensive attack.  Ruby Peterson had a strong overall floor game with 8 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 6 steals.  Madi Foss contributed 7 points and 5 assists, Lizzy Olstad had 7 points and Elsa Retzlaff finished with 4 points and 5 rebounds.  Stella Moline chipped in 3 points.

“Maddie had a great night from the 3-point line and she also attacked the rim nicely,” added Clark.  “Ella has been so strong around the basket and she’s looking more for her shot each game.  She’s a real force when she gets the ball down low.  Ruby played a good all-around game for us, providing a much needed spark on the defensive end.”

Hillcrest (14-6, 9-4 LEC) has won four straight games.  They will play at Rothsay on Thursday night.

Parkers Prairie (8-12, 5-9 LEC) is at Wadena-Deer Creek on Thursday night.
