The Battle Lake boys’ basketball team hosted Hancock on Tuesday night and the Battlers jumped out to a 45-24 halftime advantage.  Battle Lake maintained their lead the rest of the night, winning 78-56 over the Owls.

Jack Mekalson poured in 29 points to lead Battle Lake.  Drew Johnson had 16 and Bradyn Roisum added a dozen.  Mekalson hit six 3’s and Johnson buried four 3-pointers.  Battle Lake had 41 rebounds and Hancock finished with 27.  Roisum completed a double-double by securing 12 rebounds.  Mekalson added a team high 7 assists.  Owen Buehler finished with 9 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals.

"Our guys have really found their groove and are playing good basketball right now," said Battle Lake Head Coach Brady Cameron.  "We are defending at a high level and moving well on offense which is giving us good looks.  We held a good offensive Hancock team to 35% shooting on the night and 5/18 from the 3pt line.  We also turned them over 13 times, converting that to 16 points.  Our defensive effort was led by Drew Johnson, Mason Dalluge, and Bradyn Roisum who did a great job of limiting Hancock's best players all night with a few of the other guys switching on to them at times as well.  Again tonight we had 20 assists on our 31 made shots which is great to see as a coach.  Jack Mekalson had a good scoring 1st half putting up 23 of his 29 points and almost out-scoring the Owl offense on his own, but then turned to his passing in the 2nd half and was dishing out the assists.  That is the strength of our team is the guys don't care who scores as long as we have a W at the end of the night."

The Owls were paced by 16 points from Jared Koehl, 12 for Jackson Koehl and 11 from Hudson VerSteeg.  Chase Evink had a team high 9 rebounds and VerSteeg added 6 rebounds.  Brayden Kisgen led with 5 assists and Jackson Koehl finished with 4 steals.

Battle Lake (14-3, 8-1 LEC) is hosting Brandon-Evansville on Friday.

Hancock (6-8) will host Ashby on Friday night.
