Ella Knutson and Maddie Ballweg scored 23 points each to lead the Hillcrest girls’ basketball team to a 79-65 victory over the Warriors in Wheaton on Tuesday night.  Knutson also had 9 rebounds and 7 assists, while Ballweg snared 6 rebounds and dished out 4 assists.  Madi Foss recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

“What a great win for our team tonight,” commented Head Coach Hannah Clark of Hillcrest.  “They worked hard, played together, and stuck to our defensive game plan.  Ella did such a nice job on their stud post, Brylie Schultz, and the rest of the team did a great job helping down in the paint when she got the ball.”

Ruby Peterson added 10 points and 5 rebounds, Elsa Retzlaff scored 7 points and had 5 boards, and Lizzy Olstad contributed 6 points.

“The girls played unselfish basketball and they were able to find open players and knock down shots,” noted Clark.  “Madi Foss played one of her best games of the season, coming away with a double-double and playing a key role for us in our defensive game plan.”

Julia Schmidt scored 23 points to lead Wheaton/Herman-Norcross.

Hillcrest (13-6, 9-4 LEC) will host Parkers Prairie next Tuesday, February 7.

Wheaton/Herman-Norcross will host Ashby on Thursday and Pelican Rapids on Saturday.
