The Hawley Nuggets paid a visit to Fergus Falls for a boys’ basketball contest on Thursday night between Section 8AA opponents.  The Nuggets had a big first half and held off the Otters in the second half for a 61-56 win.

“We had a great first half that provided us an opportunity to kick the ball around some in the second half and still hold on for a tough road win,” commented Hawley Head Coach Nathan Stoa.  “We told the guys at halftime that Fergus was too proud to go away.  They came out hot and it became a grind of a game.  We took our foot off of the gas too much late. We ran clock but forgot to attack the basket. Fergus Falls will heard from in the section playoffs.  They are getting better every game out.”

Sam Senske led the Nuggets with 25 points and Mason Gratton joined him in double figures with a dozen.

“Sam Senske was huge for us tonight,” noted Coach Stoa. “We don’t have official rebound totals yet, but he was all over the glass tonight.  Everyone knows he can score, but he’s been a dominant rebounder this season.”

Henry Bethel scored 18 to lead the Otters.  Hayden Knick and Jaydon Manteufel added 9 and 8 points, respectively.

Hawley (8-6) will host Park Rapids on Saturday.

Fergus Falls (5-10) has a 7:00pm game with Detroit Lakes on Saturday at the Kennedy Secondary School Gold Gymnasium.
