The Fergus Falls boys’ basketball team traveled to Moorhead to face the Spuds on Tuesday night.  The Otters trailed 22-18 at the half and battled the Spuds down to the wire in the second half before falling 54-40.  Fergus Falls shot 35% (18-51) from the field and Moorhead shot 36% (17-47).  The Spuds held a 38-28 edge on the boards.

“Tonight was a great night of high school basketball, with a great atmosphere,” reported Fergus Falls Head Coach Matt Johnson. “Moorhead has a really talented team this year, with tremendous length and athleticism at every spot. I thought our guys were really good on the defensive end of the floor, making every post touch a difficult one for them. We battled on the glass all night, but their 6'9" kid gave us some trouble, and second chance opportunities hurt us. We still had some opportunities late in the game. Down 46-40, with under 2 minutes to go, we missed a layup and a good look at a 3 that would have made it a one possession game. The game was within a couple of possessions for most of the night. I was proud of the way we battled tonight.”

Fergus Falls was led by Henry Bethel (13 points, 2 assists, 4 deflections), Ryan Hirst (6 points, 6 rebounds, 4 deflections) and Jaydon Manteufel (4 points, 5 rebounds, 4 steals, 3 deflections).

Dylan Zimmerman led the Spuds with 19 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists.  Colton Hagen dished out 4 assists and Adam Jenkins had a team high 14 rebounds.

Fergus Falls (5-9) will host Hawley on Thursday and Detroit Lakes on Saturday in a pair of non-conference contests.
