The Fergus Falls boys’ basketball team held a slim 26-25 lead at the half against Central Lakes Conference rival Willmar on Friday night.  The Otters proceeded to outscore the Cardinals 30-22 over the final 18 minutes, making 8-of-9 second half free throws to preserve a 56-47 victory on their home court.  The Otters snapped a six game losing streak with the win.

Henry Bethel poured in 20 points and had a team high 6 rebounds to lead the Otters.  Levi King was also in double figures with 10 points.  Ryan Hirst scored 8, Micah Johnson 7 and Hayden Knick 6.  Josh Sternberg pulled down 6 rebounds and led the Otters with 3 steals.

“Considering what we have been emphasizing the last few days, I thought our start tonight was disappointing,” said Fergus Falls Head Coach Matt Johnson.  “The guys adjusted well after an early timeout and we wound up with a much needed win.”

Blake Schoolmeester was the leading scorer for Willmar with 16 points.  Khalid Muhumed added 15 points and Maxwell Mobley contributed 13 points.

Fergus Falls (5-8) will play at Moorhead on Tuesday, will host Hawley on Thursday and will have a home game against Detroit Lakes on Saturday night.
