Clint Determan scored 25 points and Dylan Bainbridge added 19 to lead the Border West boys’ basketball team to a 62-51 road win over Battle Lake on Tuesday night.  Andrew Walker chipped in with 9 points as the Buccaneers won for a third straight time, improving their season record to 6-2.

Determan had a team high 6 rebounds and Bainbridge distributed 5 assists and came up with 5 steals.  Walker added 4 assists.

“This game was just a great performance by our boys,” commented Border West Head Coach Jordon Roos. “We forced turnovers while taking care of the ball. We protected the paint and limited easy baskets. Our energy and intensity from the guys on the floor and off the floor was outstanding to come away with a win on the road in a tough conference matchup.”

Border West shot 44.8% (26-58) from the field and Battle Lake made 42.2% (19-45) of their shots.  Border West forced 19 Battle Lake turnovers, which led to 20 points.  The Buccaneers took good care of the ball, turning it over only 8 times in the game.

Leaders for Battle Lake were Owen Buehler (17 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 5-7 3's), Jack Mekalson (10 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals), Bradyn Roisum (10 points) and Mason Dalluge (5 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals).

"Hats off to Border West, they are a very good team and a real contender in the Little 8 and the Section," said Battle Lake Head Coach Brady Cameron.  "They defended at a high level and took us out of our stuff tonight, turned us over way too many times and converted those TO's into points.  We shot the ball well from the outside again tonight but we need to work on our finishing inside the paint as we only shot 5/16 around the rim.  We need to have a good rest of the week of practice and get ready for 2 tough  defensive opponents in Ashby and Parkers Prairie"

Border West will host Brandon-Evansville on Thursday night in Graceville.

Battle Lake (6-3) entertains Ashby on Thursday and Parkers Prairie on Saturday in a pair of Little Eight Conference games.
