After Ashby scored on their first possession of the game, the Hillcrest girls’ basketball team scored 30 straight points on the way to a 72-22 victory over the Arrows.  The Comets forced 28 turnovers and only turned the ball over 5 times on the night.

“The girls jumped out to an early lead and were able to maintain that lead throughout the entire game,” said Hillcrest Head Coach Hannah Clark. “They played unselfish basketball and got the whole team involved. It was fun to get all of our bench players some quality minutes in the second half.”

Maddie Ballweg had a game high 15 points while adding 5 assists and 4 steals.  Ruby Peterson contributed 14 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals.  Elsa Retzlaff finished with 12 points and 5 rebounds, and Ella Knutson registered a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.  She also had 4 steals and 3 blocked shots.  Lizzy Olstad chipped in with 8 points.

“Ruby and Ella played great all around games for us,” added Clark. “Maddie Ballweg led us in scoring and she also distributed the ball well, breaking down the defense and finding open teammates.”

Ashby was led by Marisa Ludwig with 7 points and Chloe Finkelson with 6.

Hillcrest (9-3, 5-2 LEC) has a Little Eight contest at Underwood on Friday night and will host Park Christian School in a non-conference contest on Saturday afternoon.

Ashby (1-9) will play host to Henning on Thursday and travel to play Brandon-Evansville on Friday.
