The Hancock boys’ basketball team shot 48% (31-65) from the floor and held a commanding 39-22 edge on the boards Monday night as they jumped to a 44-24 halftime lead on the way to an 80-66 victory over the Rothsay Tigers.

Jared Koehl scored a game high 21 points for the Owls.  He was joined in double digits by Chase Evink and Jackson Koehl with 16 points apiece, and Hudson VerSteeg and Brayden Kisgen with 12 points each.  Jackson Koehl completed a double-double with 10 assists and also had 7 rebounds.  Evink and VerSteeg pulled down 8 rebounds each and Kisgen added 7 boards and 7 assists.  VerSteeg had a team high 6 steals.

Landon Messerschmidt and Matthew Danielson led Rothsay with 15 points each.  Carson Weiers added 11 and Preston Curtis had 10 for the Tigers, who shot 42% (27-64) on the night.

“Tonight we came out and played hard but the last 8-9 minutes of the first half we really struggled and Hancock built too big of a lead for us to overcome," stated Rothsay Head Coach Taylor Fuhs.  "The second half of the game might have been the best half of basketball we have played to date. Hoping we can build off that going in to tomorrow night”

Hancock (4-3) will host Underwood on Friday night, while Rothsay (0-6) will entertain Ortonville on Tuesday and will travel to Fergus Falls to play Hillcrest on Thursday.
