The Breckenridge Cowboys trailed 54-45 at halftime but rallied to beat the Underwood Rockets 98-92 in overtime on Friday night.  “Cowboys battled for 40 minutes tonight and got the overtime win,” said Breckenridge Head Coach Jordan Christensen.  “Overall, we need to fix the defensive end and continue to improve.”

Alex Sanchez led the Cowboys with 31 points and 7 rebounds.  Daymon Smith added 27 points and 6 rebounds, Landon Blaufuss contributed 15 points and 8 rebounds, and Jaxson Riggs had 12 points.

“Daymon Smith kept us in it with 6 first half three’s,” added Christensen.  “After halftime Cam Nieto and Alex Sanchez picked us up on the defensive end.  All of our guys did a great job rebounding the ball, led by Landon Blaufuss.  Alex Sanchez got downhill to the rim at will for his 31.”

Underwood was led by freshman Drew Evavold with 19 points.  Sophomore Kaleb Hammes had 18 and sophomore Hudson Risbrudt contributed 17 points.  Sophomore Evan Lundgren added 11 points, junior Gavin Pausch chipped in with 8, while Noah Link and Owen Harig had 6 points apiece.

“I’m proud of how our guys battled tonight, played a complete game, and were able to come back after losing our early first half lead,” said Underwood Head Coach Kellen Shebeck.  “We struggled with foul trouble in the second half, but I’m proud of how hard we battled tonight and look forward to our continued improvement throughout the season.”

Breckenridge (1-4) will host Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta on Tuesday night.

Underwood (3-2) will play at Park Christian School in Moorhead on Tuesday and resumes Little Eight Conference play in Battle Lake on Thursday.
