Trailing 37-35 at halftime in Hancock, the Battle Lake boys’ basketball team outscored the Owls 50-37 in the second half and went on to defeat the home team by the final score of 85-74.

Jack Mekalson and Bradyn Rosium each scored 22 points to lead four Battlers in double digits.  Mason Dalluge and Owen Buehler contributed 15 and 13 points, respectively.  Battle Lake had 10 3’s in the game, 4 of them from Mekalson and 3 from Dalluge.  Roisum had a team high 9 rebounds, while Buehler added 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 6 steals.

"We didn't have our best defensive game but we were able to go on the road and find a way to win a big conference and section game," stated Battle Lake Head Coach Brady Cameron.  "We got ourselves down double digits in the 1st half and we battled back and were able to cut it to 2 at half time.  In the second half our offense got in a groove and we put up 50 points and outscored them by 13.  The guys got some big stops late in the game when it counted and hopefully we can build on that defensive effort. Hancock has a nice team that can shoot the ball well along with size and athleticism and they caused us fits early on."

Hudson VerSteeg led Hancock with 27 points.  He was joined in double figures by Chase Evink with 18 and Jackson Koehl with 13.  VerSteeg had six 3’s in the game.  Koehl and Evink led the team with 9 rebounds each.  Koehl also had 8 assists and Rylan Meierding led the team with 9 assists.

Battle Lake (4-0) will play at Brandon-Evansville on Thursday night.

Hancock (1-2) plays at Ashby on Thursday.
