Knick Drains Six 3's as Otters Beat Cowboys on Openiing Night

The Fergus Falls boys’ basketball team scored the first fifteen points of the game on Friday night in Breckenridge and never looked back as they built a 40-19 halftime lead, led by as many as 33 points and walked away with a 74-51 victory in the season opener for both teams. 

The game was quite physical with all fourteen player on the Fergus Falls roster picking up at least one foul as the team accumulated a total of 27 fouls in the game, 17 of them in the first half.  Breckenridge finished just 13-of-23 from the free throw line.  The Otters forced 30 Breckenridge turnovers on the night.

Henry Bethel keyed the offense in the first half, scoring all 12 of his points before halftime.  Hayden Knick was dialed in from 3-point range, making six-of-seven attempts from beyond the arc and scoring a game high 20 points.  Four of his six 3’s came in the second half.  Other leaders for the Otters were Jaydon Manteufel with 8 rebounds and 3 steals, Erik Hanson with 4 steals and 5 assists, Josh Sternberg with 5 assists and Levi King with 3 steals. 

Breckenridge senior Joey Conzemius drew five charges in the game.  Daymon Smith hit four 3’s on the way to a team high 14 points.  He was joined in double figures by Alex Sanchez with 12 and Landon Blaufuss with 11.  Blaufuss completed a double-double with 10 rebounds.

Fergus Falls will play at St. Cloud Apollo on Thursday night and the Cowboys go to Battle Lake for a Tuesday night contest.
