The Border West Buccaneers, a combination of Wheaton/Herman-Norcross and Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley, played their first boys’ basketball game of the season on Thursday night, building a 38-13 halftime lead on the way to a 77-40 victory over Benson.

“We played a really nice game for the first game of the year and as the Border West Bucs,” said Head Coach Jordon Roos. “Our defense was stellar in the first half causing a ton of turnovers. We pushed the ball up the floor to score in the transition for most of our offense on the night. Excited to see a lot of guys getting in the scoring column and hoping we have a wide spread of scorers all year.”

Border West forced 25 turnovers, leading directly to 18 points, and held a 49-27 edge on the boards, grabbing 15 offensive rebounds.  The Bucs also had 22 assists in the game.  They shot 45.3% from the field and 27.8% on 3-pointers.  They held Benson to 25% shooting.

Leaders for the Buccaneers were Dylan Bainbridge (21 points, 4 assists, 3 steals), Cole Gilsdorf (12 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals, 2 blocks), Clint Determan (10 points, 14 rebounds, 6 assists, 4 steals) and Caden Spilde (11 points, 6 rebounds, 2 blocks).

Next up for Border West is a trip to Rosholt, South Dakota on Friday, December 9 to face Tri-State.
