John Holsten enters his fifth season as head coach of the Ashby Boys’ Basketball team.  The Arrows are coming off an outstanding season that saw them finish 23-4 and 11-1 in the Little Eight Conference, sharing the conference title with Hillcrest Lutheran Academy.  The Arrows lost nine players to graduation, including Jacob Cook, who became the fourth all-time scorer in program history and is now playing basketball at Concordia College in Moorhead.  Four other players from that team are playing college baseball, Torin Olson and Hunter Norby at Alexandria Technical and Community College, and Matson Hoff and Carter Spangler at Jamestown.

“We are a team that doesn’t have a lot of varsity basketball experience,” stated Coach Holsten.  “We’ll need to compete with tremendous effort every game and practice.  Our goals include having good shot selection and improving our transition defense.”

Senior Brodie Ecker (Guard) is the only returning starter.  Other letter winners back this year are senior Bradee Christianson (Guard), junior Kellen Dahlen (Forward) and sophomore Easton Nelson (Point Guard).

Several players will be battling for varsity minutes, including senior Levi Bogenrief (Post), juniors Jake Norby (Forward), Richie Johnson (Guard), Fred Schlotfeld (Forward), Logan Johnson (Guard), Micah Fossell (Guard) and Keith Hooks (Forward), freshmen Jacob Sorenson (Forward), Bradley Schroeder (Guard) and Reed Jensen (Guard), and eighth-grader Traeton Nelson (Guard).

Holsten, who will be assisted by Jeremy Quernemoen, Kip Nelson and Rich Gramm, says Border West, Hillcrest, Hancock, Parkers Prairie and Battle Lake should be contending teams in the Little Eight Conference, with BBE, Henning, KMS, New York Mills and Mahnomen-Waubun joining those teams as Section 6A contenders.
