The Wadena-Deer Creek boys’ basketball team won 10 of their last 13 regular season games with a core of young players, making for some optimism heading into the 2022-23 season. “We gained a lot of experience and played some top teams tough,” commented Head Coach Kevin Tumberg, now in his seventh season.  Alex Brockpahler, Ryan Elfering and Ryan Nelson will serve as assistant coaches for the Wolverines.

Juniors Teshe Loer (PG), Peyton Church (G) and Josiah Kallevig (F) are returning letter winners and will be joined on the varsity by seniors Nickolas Briggs, Isaac Hamann (G), Noah Johnson and Phillip Ross (F), along with juniors Lyrik Haug (G) and Nathan Peterson (F), and sophomore Kobe Snyder (G).

“We are excited for this season,” added Coach Tumberg.  “We lost a major key to everything we did last season with the loss to graduation of Payton Rondestvedt, but we return everyone else that gained a ton of experience at the varsity level for the first time.  We are looking to take a big step forward this season.”

Tumberg says Perham, DGF and Hawley are the teams to beat in Section 8AA, while Henning and Pillager are his picks in the Park Region Conference.
