Vikings End Season with Home Playoff Loss to Crookston

The season ended on Saturday for the Pelican Rapids football team with a 27-12 home playoff loss to the Crookston Pirates in the semifinal round of the Section 8AA Tournament.

The Vikings opened the game with a 3 and out defensively, and then went on a 60 yard drive which resulted in a 12 yard touchdown run by Jack Kapenga for a 6-0 lead with 8:38 left in the first quarter.

Crookston pulled even with a 7 5 yard scoring drive early in the second quarter, capped by a 2 yard TD run by Ethan Boll.  Boll scored on a 16 yard run on fourth down and three later in the second quarter and Jake Erickson's extra point kick gave the Pirates a 13-6 halftime advantage.

Less than thirty seconds into the second half, Crookston increased their lead to 20-6 when Boll broke loose on a 76 yard touchdown run and Erickson booted another extra point.

Pelican Rapids cut the lead to 20-12 in the fourth quarter when Carter Johnson caught a 4 yard TD pass from Peyton Blakeway.  Crookston wrapped up the scoring with an 8 yard run by Tanner Giese and an Erickson PAT kick to put the score at 27-12.

Pelican Rapids ends their season with a 7-2 record.  Crookston will move on to face Barnesville for the Section 8AA title at 8:00pm Friday at the Fargodome.
