Hillcrest Lutheran Academy hosted a Section 6A volleyball playoff match on Wednesday night and recorded a 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-15) victory over Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal.  The victory earned the Comets an opportunity to host a second home playoff game as they will entertain the Breckenridge Cowgirls at 7:00pm Friday.

“Thanks to everyone in the crowd for coming to cheer us on,” said Hillcrest Head Coach Debi Foss.  “What a blessing to get a home playoff game!  With Emily Adams out with an injury, we had some adjustments to make going into the game.  I am so proud of my team for their unity through this process.  The first and second sets were tight and we were actually down at different points in each set.  Both teams were fighting to keep their seasons alive with hard attacks and trying to go around the block.  Madi Foss led with kills and did a good job of finding holes in their defense.  Anna Brumfield was also effective from the outside.  Hope Adams was strong from the middle until she went out with an injury in the third set.”

Foss finished with 13 kills, 15 digs, 1 block assists and 4 service points.  Other stat leaders were Brumfield (9 kills, 8 digs, 9 service points, 1 ace), Ruby Peterson (36 set assists, 14 digs, 17/17 serving, 12 service points, 3 blocks), Maddie Ballweg (15 digs, 9 serving points, 2 aces), Ella Knutson (5 kills, 18 digs, 2 set assists, 2 block kills, 1 block assist), Kenzie Miller (2 kills, 2 digs, 4 block kills, 1 block assist) and Hope Adams (7 service points, 9 kills, 2 digs, 2 blocks).

“As a whole, we only served 86%, which is not normal for us,” noted Foss.  “However, Maddie Ballweg got us on a nice run in the second set and Ruby Peterson was perfect from the serving line.  I’m thankful for our younger reserve players, Kenzie Miller and Chloe Johnson, were able to come in and contribute to the win.”
