Karson Jensen (28 carries, 341 yards, 4 TD’s) had another huge game for the Rothsay Tigers as they started the Section 4 9-Man playoffs with an impressive 58-20 win over the Hillcrest Comets in the quarterfinal round on Tuesday night in Rothsay.

The Tigers got off to a fast start, scoring on an 18 yard run by quarterback Karter Jensen and a 42 yard TD pass from Karter Jensen to Peyton Kadel.  Hillcrest scored on a 3 yard run by Evan Lindgren to make the score 16-6 at the end of one quarter.

The Tigers weren’t slowed at all in the second quarter as Karter Jensen connected with Matthew Danielson on a 75 yard TD pass and Karson Jensen scored on runs of 15 and 52 yards.  Hillcrest was able to score on a 53 yard run by Lindgren, making the halftime score 38-12.

In the third quarter, after a huge goal line stand by the Rothsay defense, Karson Jensen went on a 99 yard run for his third touchdown of the night.  This was the only scoring in the third quarter, leaving the Tigers with a 44-12 lead heading into the fourth.

Karson Jensen scored on a 36 yard run and the Comets answered with a 7 yard TD toss from Ethan Swedberg to Gabe Swedenburg to make it 50-20.  Preston Curtis scored on a 55 yard run to put the final score at 58-20 after a successful two-point conversion.

“This is exactly the game we needed to kick start our playoff run,” said Rothsay Head Coach Joel Meyer.  “This was a whole team win.  The running saying with the team is ‘we aren’t done yet,’ meaning we still have something to prove to Section 4, that the Rothsay Tigers are not going anywhere, and we are certainly not going down without a fight.  We have our sights set on the Fargo Dome to play for a Section Championship.”

Hillcrest was led by Lindgren with 148 rushing yards on 21 carries.  Swedenburg caught 9 passes for 132 yards and Erik Bjorndahl completed 8-of-25 passes for 121 yards.  Defensively, Nathan Bermel led with 7 tackles and half-a-sack.  Leo Nordick had an interception and Samual Reese recovered a fumble and was credited with half-a-sack.

Rothsay continues their playoff run with a semifinal round game at Verndale at 2:00pm Saturday.
