The Ortonville Trojans hosted Hillcrest in a high school football contest on Friday night.  The Trojans led 16-0 after one quarter, extended their lead to 32-7 at the half, held a 44-7 advantage after three and finished the night with an explosive 52-14 win over the Comets.

Senior quarterback Carter Brown got the first touchdown on the board with a 42 yard run and added the two-point conversion run for an 8-0 Ortonville lead with 9:05 to play in the opening quarter.  At the 3:16 mark, senior running back Daunte Fetters broke loose for a 50 yard TD run and Brown once again got the conversion points to give Ortonville a 16-0 lead.

A 2 yard run by Nathan Gustafson at 9:38 of the second quarter, and a third two-point run by Brown upped the lead to 24-0.  Fetters added a 67 yard run for his second TD of the night with 7:52 remaining in the half and Brown connected with Alex Meyer on a two-point conversion pass, increasing the Trojans advantage to 32-0.  Hillcrest got the goose egg off the scoreboard when Erik Bjorndahl hooked up with Gabe Swedenburg on a 51 yard touchdown pass 18 seconds before the half ended.  Mathias Gjerme added the PAT kick to send the game to halftime with Ortonville holding a 32-7 lead.

In the third quarter, Gustafson scored on a 38 yard run for a 38-7 Ortonville lead and Fetters then went 63 yards for another score to make it 44-7 at the end of three.

Brown and Meyer connected on a 3 yard TD pass with 5:31 left in the game and Dru Boots ran in for the two-point conversion and a 52-7 lead for the Trojans.  With just 1.5 seconds to play, an Ethan Swedberg pass of 6 yards to Gabe Swedenburg and a Gjerme extra-point kick put the final score at Ortonville 52, Hillcrest 14.

“Injuries and a slow start hurt us in this loss,” commented Head Coach Korey Fry of the Comets.  “Key injuries to starters and inconsistency on defense have hurt us all year.  Defensively, we are struggling overall with our assignments and making stops when we need them.  Offensively, not having Evan Lindgren available at running back really hurt us.  His presence alone means a lot to our team and how teams play us.  We hope to get Evan back this week, but we will be down other key contributors this week.  We hope to get back on track for Senior Night this Wednesday before heading into the playoffs.”

Thor Ewan was the leading rusher with 9 carries for 38 yards and Gjerme added 30 yards on 11 rushing attempts.  Swedenburg was the top receiver, hauling in 9 passes for 143 yards and both touchdowns.  Bjorndahl completed 14-of-30 passes for 150 yards.  Micah Bermel led the defense with 8 solo tackles and 2 assisted tackles.  Swedberg picked off a pass for the Comets.

Hillcrest (2-5) will close out their regular season schedule with a home game against Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley (0-7) on Wednesday night.

Ortonville (3-4) plays their final regular season game at Rothsay (4-3) on Wednesday.
