For the second time in the Section 8A playoffs, the Hillcrest girls’ soccer team has won an overtime decision. The Comets blanked Crookston on a ‘Golden Goal’ by Lisa Blom on Thursday at Danielsen Field and on Saturday, Marie Oy scored on a perfectly placed free kick from outside the box late in the first 10 minute overtime period to lift Hillcrest past Fergus Falls, 2-1 in the West Sub-Section finals. The win moves Hillcrest into the Section 8A title match on Tuesday at 7:30pm in Sauk Centre.
Blom got the scoring started with a goal in the 29th minute, giving Hillcrest a 1-0 lead at the half. Fergus Falls tied the game on a goal by Ella Starzl with 5 minutes to play in regulation. Comet goalkeeper Hannah Radzwill was superb in goal throughout the contest.
“Congratulations to Hillcrest, they played a very good game today,” said Fergus Falls Head Coach Ben Jurgens. “The 2022 Fergus Falls Otter Girls team was a great group of kids! They were a talented group, but most importantly, they were really a fun group to be with. The coaching staff will miss them.”
Hillcrest is now 7-9 on the season.
Fergus Falls finishes their season with a final record of 10-8.
