The Hillcrest volleyball team was a 3-0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-15) winner over Battle Lake on Thursday night as they completed their Little Eight Conference season with a record of 8-1, tying Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley for the top record in the LEC.  The Comets are now 17-1 overall.

“While tonight wasn’t our “prettiest” or cleanest play of the season, we got the job done,” said Hillcrest Head Coach Debi Foss.  “The Battlers did a good job of mixing around their shoots and free balls. We kept pushing to get into our normal routine and at moments attacked the ball well. Madi Foss played very consistent at the net tonight and was efficient with her attack. Hope Adams served well and had some long stretches from the back line coming up with 14 serving points and 6 aces. I’m proud of how these young ladies continue to pull TOGETHER despite the situation.”

The Comets were led by Hope Adams (14 service points, 6 aces, 19/20 serving, 4 kills, 2 digs), Madi Foss (7 service points, 10/11 serving, 3 aces, 10 kills, 11 digs), Maddie Ballweg (4 serving points, 2 aces, 13 digs), Anna Brumfield (11 service points, 2 aces, 7 kills, 12 digs), Ella Knutson (4 kills, 5 digs, 2 block kills), Emily Adams (4 service points, 1 ace, 5 kills, 8 digs, 1 block kill) and Ruby Peterson (28 set assists, 9 digs, 6 service points, 10/10 serving).

“We started slow and Hillcrest kept the momentum to win set one,” explained Battle Lake Head coach Jenny Roisum.  “The Battlers were able to pick up their game in sets 2 and 3, but, Hillcrest had an impressive offense tonight and we ran out of time to make a comeback.”

Kenady Cameron led the Battlers with 6 kills and 4 blocks, while Quinn Amundson was 12/12 serving with 10 digs.  Sophie Akerman dished out 16 assists with 8 digs.  The Battlers face Frazee on Tuesday to finish out their regular season schedule.

Coach Foss added, “I’d also like to celebrate our younger players in the Junior High Program.  Our 8th-grade team, led by Coach Ashley Miller, ended with a 10-2 record, and our 7th-grade team, coached by Cathy Johnson, had a perfect 12-0 season. I’m thankful for our coaches who lead well, teach, encourage, and motivate their teams to love the game of volleyball.”

The Comets will travel to Lake Park/Audubon on Monday for their final regular season match of the season.
