Hillcrest Lutheran Academy won their home match with Wheaton/Herman-Norcross in straight sets on Thursday night, 25-22, 25-22, 25-16, improving their season record to 12-0.

“Tonight’s match started with a battle of strong attacks from middle attackers on each team,” reported Hillcrest Head Coach Debi Foss.  “Hope Adams (7 serving points, 9 kills, 4 digs) was hot from the start and gave us a good jump to start the match.  Brylie Schultz also dominated early on for the Warriors.  There was certainly a learning curve, but also a good challenge for us to go up against a tall middle blocker.  The Warriors attacked the ball at us in a variety of ways and tested our defense.”

The Comets were led by Ruby Peterson (34 set assists, 6 digs, 9 serving points, 4 kills), Maddie Ballweg (13/13 serving, 14 digs, 8 serving points), Emily Adams (15/15 serving, 8 kills, 12 digs), Anna Brumfield (10/10 serving, 14 kills, 4 digs), Ella Knutson (4 kills, 2 digs) and Madi Foss (8 service points, 3 kills, 15 digs).

“The first two sets were close, but we were able to win some crucial points at just the right time,” said Coach Foss.  “The third set we got into our normal rhythm early and our attack became more effective.  Thanks once again to our fans for their great support and creative cheering!”

Leaders for the Warriors were Emily Drewicke (12/12 serving, 4 digs), Ashlyn McCalip (12 set assists, 10/11 serving), Anna Bright (13/14 serving, 2 aces, 11 digs), Zaundra Determan (8 kills), Brylie Schultz (9 kills, 8/9 serving, 1 ace, 7 digs) and Jordyn Perry (6 digs, 7/8 serving).  Reagan Spilde was 7-for-7 serving and had 4 digs.

The Comets are on the road for three straight matches next week with the first being against Rothsay on Monday for a Little Eight Conference matchup.
