A 22 point second quarter lifted the Barnesville Trojans to a 28-0 halftime lead over Pelican Rapids on Friday night and the Trojans went on to score 15 second half points, taking a 43-0 victory over the Vikings.

John Roller got the Trojans on the scoreboard with a 4 yard run in the opening quarter.

Roller added TD runs of 23 yards and 10 yards in the second quarter and then hauled in a 50 yard TD pass from Zach Bredman.  Two point runs came from Dawson Gregg and Braeden Bredman.

Braeden Bredman scored a third period TD on a 3 yard run and Zach Bredman ran in the two-point conversion.

The final Barnesville touchdown came on a 64 yard run from Gannon BolgreanIsaac Maneval tacked on the extra-point kick.

“Two fantastic teams faced off in this one and I feel the biggest factor in the game is that we had way less guys going both ways than they did,” commented Barnesville Head Coach Bryan Strand.  “Depth is a fantastic thing, we only started three kids the other night that had to go both ways, resting and sitting with coaches is crucial early in the season.  The boys had a goal for the night and they did a great job working towards that goal.  I felt we played outstanding in all three facets of the game.  Timmy Guler is a fantastic quarterback and they have plenty of playmakers with him. I felt our defense did a good job of containing him most of the night.  Late in the 2nd quarter we changed up a bit giving him the short passes trying to just not give up the homeruns, we should of stuck with our base we had been playing most of the game, that mistake is on me.  We ended up making a very nice play at the goal line keeping them out of the end zone.”

Leaders for the Trojans were Roller with 80 rushing yards on 12 touches, Zach Bredman with 63 yards on 9 carries, Braeden Bredman ran for 59 yards on 7 attempts and Andrew Pederson had 57 yards on 8 carries.  Zach Bredman completed 2-of-3 passes for 76 yards.  Defensively, Owen Riddle had two interceptions, Aaron Baker, Austin Bolgrean and Logan Yeske each forced a fumble, and sacks were recorded by Peyton Amundson and Justin Krueger. Braeden Bredman had a team high 6 tackles.

“As you can see from the stats we were very consistent on running the ball and many guys contributed to the success in the run game,” added Coach Strand.  “It was great to see Zachary hit a couple passes early and as the game went on we really didn't have a need to throw as we were controlling the clock.  John Roller continues to amaze us as how well he is seeing the field and running.  Andrew Pederson had another stellar night running the ball.  Braeden did a nice job both running and receiving.  Our number one goal on the night was to wear them down and I felt we did that.  Their kids fought hard and never gave up, it wasn't as lopsided as the score may indicate.  We got one score when the teams had subbed their next line in and we broke a long run by Gannon Bolgrean who has been doing a great job on defense for us and went to quarterback and broke a long run.”

Coach Strand continued, “The offensive and defensive lines both played hard and got off the ball as well as I have seen them to this point in the season.  We averaged 8.6 yards a carry on the night which against a good team like Pelican was great to see. It was a great team win.  This week we have Osakis coming to town and they are a fantastic team and very well coached.  They got us last year in triple overtime and I would expect another great game with them this year.”

Barnesville (3-0) will host Osakis on Friday night, while Pelican Rapids (2-1) has a road game against Parkers Prairie.
