The Hillcrest volleyball team hosted Ashby in a Little Eight Conference match on Thursday night, which the Comets won in 3 sets, 25-10, 25-15, 25-9.  “As a team we had some goals in mind for tonight’s match,” said Head Coach Debi Foss of the Comets.  “I think we checked some of those boxes and others we didn’t quite meet or we didn’t have the opportunity.  We were able to maintain focus during the match and get the job done efficiently.”

Statistical leaders for Hillcrest were Hope Adams (9 kills, 2 blocks, 3 ace serves, 8 serving points), Maddie Ballweg (7 serving points, 2 ace serves, 14 digs), Madi Foss (8 kills, 2 digs, 2 serving points, 1 ace serve, 2 blocks), Ella Knutson (4 kills, 3 digs, 3 blocks), Emily Adams (8 kills, 1 dig, 1 block, 3 serving points), Anna Brumfield (6 kills, 8 digs, 13 serving points, 1 block) and Ruby Peterson (27 set assists, 15 serving points, 1 ace serve, 8 digs).

“Even though tonight’s game had a much different pace than our match on Tuesday, I always enjoy playing Ashby,” added Coach Foss.  “They are a great group of girls and we wish them luck in the rest of their season.”

Ashby was led by Ryleigh Brendmoen (4 digs, 4 kills, 3/3 serving), Haleigh Brendmoen (4 digs, 1 kills, 2/3 serving), BrookeLinn Finkelson (1 dig, 2 kills), Alyssa Johnson (3 digs, 6/6 serving), Lucy Ohren (3 digs, 3/3 serving), Chloe Finkelson (1 kills, 2 blocks), Livy Johnson (6/6 serving, 3 kills), Sienna Williams (4/7 serving, 2 ace serves) and Mia Thompson (1 dig).

“We battled tonight and as we are still trying to fit pieces together to find the niche we need to succeed,” commented Ashby Head coach Hayley Stevens. “We saw good things happening from time to time, but we struggled to capitalize when the good things happened. Hillcrest is a strong hitting team this year and they have upped their game and work the net well which tired us out. With only a week since we last saw this team, we changed things a bit and saw improvements in places. And we continue to see that game to game and this group is young and learning how to depend on each other. Early communication and anticipating the ball's movement are the focus for the next couple days and we have a long break until we head to Hancock next Thursday night. Time to reevaluate and work on things to come out rested and ready.”

The Comets (8-0-2) will play in Moorhead on Tuesday against Park Christian School.
