The Battlers were able to win a set against LPA, splitting with the Raiders 25-14, 15-25.

The host Vikings had splits with both Hillcrest and Breckenridge, beat LPA 27-25, 25-22 and beat Battle Lake 25-13, 28-25.

“We struggled getting into any kind of rhythm the first round against LPA,” said Pelican Rapids Head Coach Heidi Isaman.  “We were not communicating well and let too many balls drop.  The Raiders played very scrappy defense and we had trouble winning the longer rallies, however, we executed when we needed to down the stretch and wound up winning both sets.  Round two we had a second chance at Hillcrest who beat us last week in 3 sets.  The Comets move the ball very well and is strong on all cylinders.  We knew we had to communicate and execute at a higher level and get strong at the net.  Set 1 Hillcrest got in system and went pin to pin.  Our block struggled to close and the Comets took advantage to win the set.  Set 2 we had a few nice, aggressive service runs and did a better job executing.  We made some huge defensive plays and fired back to win the set.  In our matchup with Battle Lake we served very aggressively to get the Battlers out of system a lot of the game which gave us more opportunities to speed up our offense which led us to a win in the first set.  In the second set we were the ones to struggle with serve receive and starting the make way too many hitting errors and we dropped the set.  The last round found us battling Breckenridge.  We played great defense and once again served very aggressively to win the first set.  The second set was another great back-and-forth battle.  The Vikings dug deep and gave everything they had left in their tank, but came up just a bit short.  Overall, I was so proud of how the girls battled today.  They got more aggressive as the day went on and were really starting to execute a more complex offense.”

The Vikings will host Menahga on Tuesday and travel to Breckenridge on Thursday.
