The Wadena-Deer Creek cross country teams hosted the Johanna Olson Invitational on Tuesday with the host Wolverines taking first place in the girls’ race with 54 points.  Little Falls was second with 57, followed by United North Central 91, New York Mills 115, Park Rapids 122, Pillager 129, Ashby/Brandon-Evansville 211 and Pine River-Backus 262.  Bertha-Hewitt, Border West, Parkers Prairie, Verndale and DGF had incomplete teams competing.

“It was a really warm day for running, so we didn’t see a lot of PRs,” said Border West Head Coach Brittany Erickson.  “I thought Julia Schmidt ran a really smooth race for about three-quarters and then she got tight.  She closed the gap between the first and second pack at the first mile, moving from sixth to second.  With about 500 meters left, a Little Falls runner and a New York Mills runner edged her out so she finished fourth.”
