The Hillcrest boys’ soccer team is coming off a 12-5-1 season a year ago and returns all but one player from that squad, including the leading scorer, junior Abram NessGabe Swedenberg, the second leading scorer on the team, has decided to play football this fall, however, senior Chance Carpenter is coming back after taking last year off due to a knee injury.

Other returners include seniors Jiun Moon, Nathan Aanas, Owen Ewan and Cole Peterson, along with freshman Drew Fischer.  Juniors Emil Boe, Isak Ostevold, Rolf Fluge, Vebjorn Myntevik, Elias Skjelbred, Matthew Knutson, Noah Bjorndahl and Max Anderson will also be in the varsity mix for the Comets.

Peterson, Moon and Ewan will serve as team captains for Head Coach Rod Jensen, now in his 22nd year.  Nathan Jensen and Steve Ness will serve as assistant coaches.

“As always, most of my players have never played together before,” said Coach Jensen.  “After learning names, we need to learn positions and skill levels.  We will improve every week as we progress into the season.”

Jensen says Pelican Rapids and St. Cloud Cathedral are the teams to beat in Section 8A, while Pelican Rapids and Bemidji are the top teams in the conference.
