Rockets Win 6A North Sub-Section Title, Will Play Hancock for 6A Championship Friday

The Underwood Rockets scored the first twenty points of their Section 6A North Sub-Section championship game with New York Mills on Wednesday night in Perham and went on to defeat the Eagles 55-36.  The Rockets held a 35-11 halftime advantage.

“We got off to a really good start,” said Underwood Head Coach Brian Hovland.  “Defensively, we played extremely well.  New York Mills is a really good team and we were able to make them uncomfortable.  When they did get a look at the basket we rebounded well.  Super proud of these girls.  Our fans came out in full force and I can’t thank them enough for showing up and cheering on these girls.”

Liz Lukken had a team high 15 points for Underwood.  Mo Bugbee added 14 points, 5 rebounds and 5 steals, Mia Blaskowski added 11 points and Kallyn Grove’s stat line included 6t points, 6 assists, 3 rebounds and 3 steals.  Ezrah Baker chipped in with 5 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists.

Leaders for New York Mills were Ayla Olson (10 points, 10 rebounds), Megan Riedell (7 points) and Moriah Geiser (7 points).  New York Mills had 21 turnovers, 16 of them in the first half.

Underwood improved to 23-3 and New York Mills finishes the season with a 17-10 mark.  Underwood and Hancock will square off for the Section 6A championship at 7:00pm Friday in Fergus Falls.
