Lexi Bright was at it again for the West Central Area girls’ basketball team as she scored 30 points, dished out 5 assists, collected 5 steals, deflected 4 passes, pulled down a couple of rebounds and blocked a shot to lead the Lady Knights to a 70-48 win over Brandon-Evansville on Wednesday night.

Mya Foslien (10 points, 3 rebounds) and Claire Stark (10 points, 4 rebounds, 2 blocks) were also in double digits for WCA.  Macy Grosz contributed 9 points, Jayden Styba had 6 points and 7 boards, Addison Staples added 2 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 blocked shots, and Elizabeth Rustan had 2 boards and 4 deflections.  Halle Foslien chipped in with 2 rebounds and 2 assists.

Brandon-Evansville was led by Kylee Dingwall (13 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists) and Olivia Otto (11 points, 2 rebounds, 3 steals.  The Chargers shot 38% (17-440 from the field.

“I’m proud of the way our team fought tonight,” stated Brandon-Evansville Head Coach Zachary Traphagen. “We relaxed for the final 1:45 of the 1st half when it was 27-20, and just like that WCA extended their lead to 37-20 at the end of the first half. Against really good teams, you can’t have those lapses, and that’s what ultimately decided the outcome. We did a lot of really good things on both ends of the floor tonight. Lexi Bright is just a special, special player. Now we turnaround tomorrow and head to CGB for a big sub-section matchup for seedings. We need to bring this same level of competitiveness, effort and toughness that we showed tonight.”

After their road game Thursday in Graceville, Brandon-Evansville (10-13) will close their regular season schedule at home against Ashby on Friday night.

West Central Area has 8 straight wins and finishes the regular season with a 17-5 record.  They will open Section 3AA play on Saturday at home against Minnewaska Area.
