The Brandon-Evansville girls’ basketball team was able to record a 65-49 win over the Ashby Arrows on Thursday night in Ashby.

“We hung on to win tonight against a resilient Ashby team,” stated Brandon-Evansville Head Coach Zachary Traphagen. “Foul trouble forced us to switch up a few things defensively, but the girls did a nice job of making the adjustments. If you are a fan of Free Throws, you really would've enjoyed this game tonight.”

B-E was led by 18 points from Olivia Otto and 16 from Kylee Dingwall.  Otto hit four 3’s and Dingwall added 2 from beyond the arc.  As a team the Chargers made 21-of-39 free throws in the game.  Haddy Baune made 6-of-8 from the line, finishing with 8 points.

“This game was a battle from the first buzzer to the last,” commented Ashby Head Coach Brenda Johnson.  “With several fouls called, free throws shot, and jump balls, this LEC contest was a battle to the end.  The outside shooting by the Chargers in the first half was too much for the Arrows to overcome in the second half.  The lady Arrows played a complete game tonight.  They came out in the second half and were only outscored by two points.  We missed some easy shots in the paint and made too many unforced errors that young players make.  Offensively, we had more players scoring tonight, but we need more players in double figures to get the win.  Great team effort.  These young ladies played with heart and tenacity, they just never quit playing, regardless of the score or time on the clock.”

Celi Nelson led all scorers with 31 points, going 20-for-26 from the charity stripe.  She grabbed 4 rebounds and had 2 steals.  BrookeLinn Finkelson had 6 points and 10 rebounds and Chloe Finkelson secured 10 rebounds, while scoring 4 points.  Marisa Ludwig got into some early foul trouble which hurt the Arrows offensive production.  She ended the night with 3 points, 2 boards and 2 steals.  Ivy Aufdenkamp and Quynn Behrens hit big 3’s in the second half.

“BrookeLinn’s long limbs really add so much to our defense,” noted Coach Johnson.  “Anytime you deflect a pass or make a shooter change their shot, it’s a plus, and Brooke does this to the best of her ability every game.  Little sister Chloe is improving with each game.  She has the task of stopping the opposing post players, who are more experienced and often times taller, but Chloe is getting better at holding her position on the blocks.”

Next up for the Chargers is Park Christian Friday night in Evansville.

Ashby will host Rothsay on Monday night.
