The Underwood boys’ basketball team faced Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley on Saturday afternoon at UM-Morris and the Rockets were able to record a 55-46 victory, avenging a 20 point loss to the Wolverines early in the season.  The game was tied at 20 at halftime.  Underwood scored the first six points of the second half and was able to maintain a lead the rest of the game with their largest advantage being 13 points.

“We played well early, but really struggled with their zone for the last part of the first half,” commented Underwood Head Coach Kellen Shebeck.  “Defensively, we played sound, but we simply weren’t strong enough on the boards, giving them far too many offensive rebounds.”

Junior Cole Peterson had 17 points, freshman Kaleb Hammes added 13 and eighth-grader Drew Evavold contributed 10.

“Second half we played much stronger and really limited their opportunities in their offense,” said Shebeck.  “We were able to push the ball and get some good baskets in transition.  I’m proud of the effort the boys put in and their adjustment at halftime.”

Underwood won their third game of the season.  They will play at Battle Lake on Tuesday, host Lake Park-Audubon on Thursday and play at home against Hillcrest on Friday.

C-G-B will play at Hancock on Tuesday and at Bertha-Hewitt on Thursday.
