The Wheaton/Herman-Norcross lady Warriors ended a busy week with a home contest in Herman against Ashby on Saturday.  Despite a slow start the Warriors were able to get untracked and cruised to a 72-34 victory.  All 16 girls played in the contest and Brylie Schultz continued her sizzling play with 32 points, 6 rebounds, 6 steals, and 2 blocked shots.

Julia Schmidt had 14 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals.  Sadie Vipond added 8 points, 2 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals.  Ellissa Rinke contributed 4 points and 6 rebounds.  Senior Lydia Vipond, playing her last game in the Herman gym, scored 4 points and pulled down 5 rebounds.

The Warriors improved to 14-3 on the season and travel to Barnesville on Tuesday night.

“It was a great week for the lady Warriors, who continue to improve in all phases of the game,” stated Head Coach Scott Bartholomew.  “We are looking forward to playing our best basketball at tournament time.”

Celi Nelson led Ashby with 27 points, including five 3’s.  She also had 2 steals and 2 blocked shots.

“Celi had a great game, offensively and defensively,” commented Head Coach Brenda Johnson.  “She is our offensive general and she does that game after game to the best of her ability, what makes that role a little easier is she has an unselfish supportive group of players around her.”

Lucy Ohren pulled down 5 rebounds, five of which came on the offensive end.  BrookeLinn Finkelson had 8 rebounds, 4 points, a block and a steal.

“The Arrows were on the floor scraping for every loose ball and around the basket playing physically against a much taller and more experienced Warrior team,” added Johnson.  “Lucy Ohren played her best defensive game of the season.  She’s usually the shortest player on the floor, but don’t let her height foot you, Lucy is determined and knows that her role on this team is being the best defensive player she can be.  BrookeLinn continues to use her height, ability to score, rebound, and run the floor to give us options on both ends of the court.  Her little sister Chloe Finkelson, just an 8th grader, battles inside game after game and doesn’t give up.  Ashley Paulson, Quynn Behrens and Marissa Ludwig all played valuable minutes and are so important to the continuity of our team.  It’s so important that all players know their roles and on any given night those three are asked to play different positions and often out of their comfort zone, but they do it for the team.”

Ashby has three games in the upcoming week.  Monday they host Ortonville, Tuesday they travel to Parkers Prairie for a conference game, and Thursday they host another LEC team, the Rothsay Tigers.  The game with the Tigers is their Cancer Awareness game and all fans are asked to wear pink.
